Dr. Talmo also serves as Assistant Chief, Orthopedic Research. In this role he is responsible for the oversight, growth and development of the orthopedic research program. Dr. Talmo will also continue to oversee research projects aimed at monitoring and improving postoperative outcomes of hip and knee procedures. Dr. Talmo has been actively involved in the development and ongoing promotion of the NEBH Total Joint Registry, which significantly improves the tracking of implants and helps to ensure continued top quality orthopedic care for patients. Dr. Talmo’s other research interests include pain management in total knee replacement (TKR), alignment in TKR, corrosion in total hip replacement (THR), rehabilitation after hip and knee replacement and management of infection following total joint replacement, and he has a number of publications in these areas in the orthopedic literature.
Dr. Talmo participates in the training and instruction of the fellows of the Otto E. Aufranc fellowship in reconstructive hip and knee surgery at NEBH. He holds an academic appointment at Tufts University School of Medicine as Assistant Clinical Professor in orthopedic surgery. Dr. Talmo is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the New England Orthopedic Society and the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons.
Dr. Talmo is a graduate of Harvard University and received his medical degree from Columbia University, College of Physicians and Surgeons. He completed his residency training through the Tufts University orthopedic surgery residency program and NEBH. He completed his fellowship in reconstructive hip and knee surgery at Massachusetts General Hospital and Harris Orthopaedic Biomechanics and Biomaterials Laboratory, where he served as a clinical instructor in orthopedic surgery at Harvard Medical School.
